Figuring out how to approach the percussion was what made me realize (around two years ago now) how an arrangement of this could work; until then I thought (I still think correctly) that just playing it on the keys would leave certain parts sounding empty and unsatisfying. I...probably won't have another one out very near future; I haven't started the next arrangement (or decided what it'll be, although I definitely have ideas) yet. But I hope it won't be a year and a half like it was for this one.

That's one of the things I like about 4/13 - while there's a little bit of Homestuck that I see most days, the 4/13 resurgence of fandom works (and occasionally official posts/content) is really nice to see.

You know, you have all the skill. All of it. You have to stop living in somebody else's shadow. I would love to see you compose something. You picked up a lot of skill while arranging all this music. Sometimes you arrange it better than the original. You are one of few people who can play inside the Piano! I'm sure your own music would sound awesome!

tempted to send this over to my percussion friends back at my old high school and see what they think
would be interesting to compare the sound quality if the hand drumming part is on cajon
It honestly would probably sound better with a percussionist with actual percussion instruments. At least so far, DtMT has always been about making every sound on the piano, so I wanted to keep that consistent, but if the percussionist adapted the percussion part and the pianist kept the keys part as I arranged it, that would be a better performance version of this arrangement.

Yeah, since the early days of DtMT, I've wanted to do a cover of this, but it took figuring out how to make the beat using only piano sounds for me to actually think it could work. And then, once I knew how to approach it, it took a while for me to actually have time to learn everything and put it together. Thank you for listening and for your patience!

What are you studying if you don't mind me asking?
I'm studying composition. And the DMA program at my school means that there's a performance component - it's not a double degree; I'm nowhere near the level to be a piano DMA. But piano is a part of my degree program as well.
